Collins, Lee Onidas
Lee Onidas Collins was born in Alabama on October 8, 1839. He was the son of Thomas and Latta Hill Collins. Both Lee and his parents moved to a farm near Honey Grove, Texas while he was quite small. It was in the fall of 1857 when Lee married Sarah Tucker. He was almost 18 years old. Soon Lee and Sarah Tucker Collins moved into North-East Dallas County where they bought a 700 acre farm near Cottonwood. The farm was so large that 18 acres spilled over into Collin County. It was on this 18 acres that they built their first home. Lee and Sarah later bought more land near the home of W. M. Lee. It was here that they built a new and larger home. The first child of Lee and Sarah Collins died as an infant. Their second child was William C. "Bud" Collins. Bud Collins was born December 19, 1861 and married Sarah Mannis. Children of Bud and Sarah Collins were William Alfred Collins who married Mae Belle Lovelace, and Chessie Collins who married Claud Allen. Their third child was James Collins, born May 17, 1864. Their fourth child, Alfred V. Collins, was born March 8, 1866. Their fifth child, Tennie Belle Collins was born July 29, 1869. Their sixth child was Mollie B. Collins who was born July 6, 1872 and married John Jennings of Clyde, Texas. Their seventh child, Eliza Jane Collins was born February 29, 1867. Their eighth child, John M. Collins, was born May 21, 1874. Their ninth child, Marilla H. Collins was born July 2, 1880. Their last child was Gussie A. Collins who was born during 1885. Lee Onidas Collins died on December 2, 1889 and was buried at Cottonwood Cemetery. He was a Civil War veteran and a member of the Texas Calvary. Sarah Tucker Collins then married Logan Grider and moved to West Texas. Sarah was living somewhere near Clyde, Texas at the time of her death. |
