Allen, Walter Lee & Mollie

Walter & Mollie Allen

Walter Lee & Mollie Bozman Allen

Walter Lee Allen was born on February 24, 1873 and died December 23, 1962. He was the son of Charles F. Allen and Hannah Zirkle. Charles. His father, Charles Fauntleroy Allen was born near Lacy Springs, Va. On June 7, 1840 and served under Stonewall Jackson during the war.
Walter married Mollie E. Bozman of the Cottonwood area. Mollie, born July 24, 1877 was the daughter of Malissa Jo Echols and Marcus Bozman. Marcus was from Alabama where all of his children except one were born. Walter, Mollie, and their children, attended the Cottonwood Church of Christ.

According to their son, Hubert Allen, "A man rode horseback from Lebanon , Texas just to preach out here one Sunday. Everybody in the community had a big dinner after church service. That preacher then performed the wedding service for Walter and Mollie at the home of Marcus Bozman. The time was 4:00 PM on a Sunday".

Children of Walter and Mollie Allen were W. Orion who married Emma Borchardt (pronounced Bo gard); Bobbie who married Frank Brown; Horace who married Beatrice Watson; Hubert who married Tommie Smith; Harold who married Ova Love Stewart, and Lois Allen who married Cleddie W. Spainhour. Cleddie was the son of Fred Spainhour and Myrtle Houston.

One granddaughter says, "I know some of the Bozman's spelled their name Bozeman, but the family of Marcus Bozman never did spell their name with an e." In some families, even fathers and sons would spell their name differently.

Both Walter and Mollie are buried at the Wylie Cemetery. Marcus had bought lots there back in 1890. Marcus Bozman didn't believe in money, so he paid for the lots with pure gold.
