Brawley, Scott
Killed By Team Of Horses Scott Brawley was born in Chester County, South Carolina on April 30, 1864. He married Sarah McCallum of Baton Rouge (Chester County), South Carolina. Sarah was born in 1865. She was the daughter of William M. and Darcus Adeline Darby McCallum. The known children of Scott and Sarah Brawley were as follows: 1. Paul Brawley born June 8, 1888. Married Edna Pelton. 2. Dewey Brawley born about 1895. 3. Mamie Brawley born about 1899. 4. Sadie Brawley born in March of 1894. Married Carl Carr. 5. Sumpter Brawley born about 1885. Their son Paul Brawley married Edna Pelton in 1911. Edna was born February 2, 1893. She was the daughter of John Arden and Sarah Ellen Nelson Pelton. John and Edna had two children. Their first son, Mack Arty Brawley, was born March 14, 1912 and married Nell Lorraine Foster. Their second child, Vernon Brawley, married Evelyn Smith. Paul Brawley met with a tragic death on August 8, 1917. Paul, Edna and Mack were in a wagon on Elm Grove Road when the horses began to rare up. Edna was expecting their second child. She held on to two year old Mack as the horses threatened. Paul jumped off the wagon and grabbed hold of the reins in order to protect his family. The horses bolted forward and drove the wagon tongue through his stomach. He was buried at Big A Cemetery. Edna later married Albert Willis. She died in April of 1982 and was buried alongside Paul at Big A Cemetery at Rowlett, Texas. Scott Brawley died around 1901 and Sarah McCallum Brawley followed in 1907. |
