C. A. & Orlenia Horton Bast
From Proud Heritage, Vol 1 by DCPA. This 300 page hardcover book is available online.

C. A. BAST and ORLENIA HORTON BAST

Orlenia Horton was born January 31, 1850, the daughter of John and Elizabeth Margaret
Hopkins Horton, who died June 16, 1853. Orlenia lived with her father and stepmother Clarinda Young Horton until her marriage July 23, 1868 m Dallas to C. A. Bast.

She had four children, Elija E., Charles H., David S., and Baly Bast. In December 1879, her husband, A. Bast, is listed as guardian of above children in a lengthy court-fought settlement.

Court records in Dallas County reflect John Horton arrived in Dallas County prior to 1847 as a single man, and acquired 110 acres, then while married to his first wife acquired 996 acres, and while married to his second wife he acquired 640 more acres. The land was described as lying in Eagle Ford in western part of Oak Cliff.

Suit was bought against M. C. Dill and Clarinda M. Horton Dill and others by the Heirs of John Horton, including her own children. One of the daughters of Clarinda Horton Dill married the brother of her step father. Emma Alice Horton married William Dill on June 16, 1873. Alice and William Dill are listed among the plaintiffs in the property settlement.

Other plaintiffs were A. H. Cameron whose guardian was Frank Cockrell; James H. Horton, Robert A. Horton, John Horton, Laura L. Horton, Martha E. Horton. The minors were represented by W. M. Edwards.

The court ordered the property partitioned and divided between the heirs in December 1879.
