Alvey, Jim

Killed By Train
A deplorable accident happened east of Chiesa (south of Rowlett) in the bottom Thursday of last week. Jim Alvey, a farmer of Chiesa Community, was walking across a culvert on the Katy facing the high wind when he was hit by the Texas running at a high speed, and knocked forty or fifty into the water. His leg was broken and almost severed from his body, but he swam to the piling of the birdge where he clung until the train backed up and rescued him. At Rowlett Dr. Maupin was called and accompanied the wounded man to Dalas where he was carried to a sanitarium (hospital). It was found on examination that he had suffered internalinjuries, and these caused his death a few hours later.

Mr. Alvey was a married man and leaves a wife and four children. About six years ago his sister-in-law was burned to death in the same community.
March 23, 1920 Clipping, source not named.
